Abstract

This article discusses a method for automated extrudate microstructure analysis using the OpenCV library in Python. The focus is on identifying and segmenting pores in extrudate cross-section images, which is essential for assessing material quality and optimizing extrusion processes. The presented approach includes image preprocessing, binarization, morphological operations, and edge detection, followed by analysis of pore geometric characteristics. The results demonstrate the method’s high efficiency and reproducibility, making it a promising tool for research in materials science and polymer engineering.
